This was a really solid contemporary read. I was in a bit of a reading slump when I read this and it was exactly what I needed to get back on track.
It's the story of Ella - Ella who comes from a close knit Italian family and is on scholarship to her school - and how she falls for someone "out of her league." But it's also so much more than that. It's the story of a girl who has to fight to overcome her insecurities in order to take a chance on something that she wants. It's about a girl who talks to a long dead painter in her head because that's less scary than actually talking to boys her own age. She's a girl who spends her free time with her friends at a karaoke lounge playing truth or dare. There was just the right amount of quirkiness at play here. I really enjoyed this book and it made me pick up Melissa Jensen's other book, Falling in Love With English Boys (which I just ADORED with everything in me).
